Create an rCloud Agent for ShadowProtect (Windows Agent)

'rCloud Agent for ShadowProtect' is also referred to in this document and the rCloud web application as 'Windows Agent'.

A single agent can be used to backup multiple machines.

Create an rCloud Agent for ShadowProtect (Windows Agent) as follows:

  1. Click on the Agents tab.
  2. Use the Clients drop-down list on the top right of the screen to select the client you are working with.
  3. Click ADD CLOUD DR AGENT.

  4. In the Agent Type kist, click ShadowProtect and enter a name for the agent. Choose a meaningful name, it will be used to identify the agent in rCloud.

  5. Click ADD.

  6. Enter the Agent settings:

    • In the Bandwidth Throttling section enter the low and high bandwidth period start times and limits in Kbps using 24 hour clock format as shown below.
    • Optionally check the Use high bandwidth during weekends box to allow the agent to use the high bandwidth setting all day Saturday and Sunday.
    • In the ShadowProtect install directory field enter the path to the ShadowProtect installation folder.

    NOTE: This folder must contain image.exe (we require version 3.0.0.18 or later of this file) and mount.exe

    • Enter an Agent workspace path. This must be on a local drive/path. The Agent uses this space during each backup. The Agent will need a minimum of 5% of the total protected volume sizes (e.g. a total 1TB of disk space on the protected machine(s) will require 50GB of workspace).

  7. Click SAVE.

Install an rCloud Agent for ShadowProtect

Once you create a ShadowProtect Agent in the rCloud, you will install the Agent software by performing the following steps:

NOTE: Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5. SP1 is required for agent installation. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 alone will not currently work, although you can have both installed.

  1. In the rCloud Web application, click on the Agents tab.
  2. Use the Clients drop-down list on the top right of the screen to select the client you are working with.
  3. Click the two drop down arrows next to the name of the Agent.
  4. Click Download.

  5. Click Run to install the Agent on the local machine or you can click Save to save it for later installation.

  6. Execute the file if you saved it and click Next on the Welcome page.
  7. On the Welcome page, click Next.

  8. Review the license terms and click I Agree.

  9. Accept the default location or choose another directory for the installation, and then click Next.

  10. Ensure the Run agent identification check box is selected and click Next.

  11. Enter your Accelerite user credentials (your email address is your user name).

  12. Select a client and an available agent from the drop-down lists, and then click Identify Agent.

    Note: In order for the rCloud system to function, the Agent must be identified. If you choose not to identify the Agent, the installation will continue but you will have to identify it manually.

  13. When prompted, confirm that your selection is correct as the identity of an agent cannot be changed, and then click OK. After you identify the Agent, you can update the configuration of your agent. Be sure to save any changes you make here before moving on to the next installation step, or you may have to re-enter them.

  14. Click Next to download updates and additional components.

  15. The setup process will download the latest version of the agent software. This may take some time depending on your bandwidth. The file is approximately 50MB. Click Hide to let the process complete the download in the background.

  16. Click OK when the update is complete.

  17. Click Finish to complete the installation.

You should see the rCloud Agent Tray Monitor running with a green check mark. rcloud-help-shadowprotect-46.gif This confirms that the setup of your agent is complete. If you hover over the rCloud agent tray monitor, it displays the status as RUNNING. You can confirm that the Agent is checking in to rCloud based on the Last check-in time that is displayed on the Agents tab.

Note: If the icon does not immediately show a green check mark, it might mean that the updates did not succeed and it will retry the operation. This might take some time.
