Hyper-V Secondary

Hyper-V Secondary

Greetings,

If you are adding Hyper-V to CloudPlatform, the requirement is SMB or local disk. If that is the case, its not NFS so mounting it to Management Server wouldn't be capable. So how would you add the system vm template if your secondary storage is an SMB hosted from a windows based file server?

Hyper-V Secondary

Hello Cliff,

I see the scenario here. You are mostly trying to register the systemVM template for HyperV as the first template (CloudPlatform setup is not complete yet, the zone for HyperV is the only one in this case); kindly confirm if this is the situation.

An workaround will be to enable NFS share on Windows - Server for NFS (natively available on Windows 2008 / 2012). Once the registration etc. is done, you may disable the NFS share.

Regards,

Thanks Abhisek,

Can we break this down step by step. We are now going to present the volume as NFS to the master server and then download the system vm template.

Next, are you saying that we present this to the Hyper-V as NFS through the file server? It states that Hyper-V with NFS is not supported, only local or SMB 3.

When we make a secondary storage connection through the CP UI, do we use the protocol as SMB/CIFS or NFS?

Any further explanation would be appreciated! Thanks.

Sorry, our scenario is Hyper-V 2012 R2 to CP 4.5.1. We are using SMB3 shares from a file server. We also get this issue in our logs but I think it is because we did not properly download the system vm. Please see the attached logs

Hello Cliff,

Looks like its a new scenario being setup. The NFS part I mentioned only as a workaround in order to count it on management server and the download the template.

We can quickly assist you over a remote session and discuss related things. Please can you open a support case with us? Let me know if that is possible.

Regards,

Abhisek
