Mapping of CPBM and Accelerite CloudPlatform entities

CPBM entities:
  • Channel: A channel usually represents a market segment or a geographic area (depending on the segmentation done by the service provider).
  • Account: An account typically represents a customer of the service provider and is the basic unit of isolation. Accounts are grouped by channels (every account is tied to a specific channel). Accounts can be of different types, the characteristics of each type are decided by the service provider.
  • Master user: Each account has a master user who can perform administrative operations for users who belong to that account.
  • User: Each account has one or more users.
CloudPlatform entities:
  • Domain: Domains usually contain multiple accounts that have some logical relationship to each other. Domain can have arbitrary levels of sub-domains.
  • Account: An account typically represents a customer of the service provider. Accounts are grouped by domains.
  • For each account created, the Cloud installation creates three different types of user accounts: root administrator, domain administrator, and user.
    • User: Users are like aliases in the account.
    • Domain Administrators: Domain administrators can perform administrative operations for users who belong to that domain.
  • Root Administrator: Root administrators have complete access to the system, including managing templates, service offerings, customer care administrators, and domains.

Mapping of CPBM and CloudPlatform entities:

The mapping between CPBM and CloudPlatform entities is decided by the resource sharing mode. The resource sharing mode is a setting that is specific to an account type and is set to either True or False by the service provider. When set to true, the shared account mode is enabled. This property is configured for an account type for a specific CloudPlatform instance by the administrator by clicking Administration > Account Types > Selected Account Type > Service Controls > CloudPlatform Service Instance > Edit. While the initial setting for an account depends on account type, resource sharing mode can be changed for specific accounts by editing the account.

Mapping between CPBM and CloudPlatform when resource sharing mode is set to True:
CloudPortal Business Manager entity maps toAccelerite CloudPlatform entity
Channel Domain
Customer account Sub Domain
Master User
  • Manages the customer account
  • Can view VMs of all users in the customer account
  • Can create new users in the customer account
Domain admin account
Users
  • All resources of the customer account are accessible
  • Cannot create new users in the customer account
Users in the master user Domain admin account
When the resource sharing mode is set to true:
  • For each account in CPBM, a sub domain is created in CloudPlatform - where every user is the Domain Admin.
  • Every user's usage gets accumulated at the tenant level.
  • All the entitlements across all users are scoped to tenant level.
  • Normal User can see resources launched by Master user as well, on resources tab.
  • Unlimited entitlements are always scoped to subscription level.
Mapping between CPBM and CloudPlatform when resource sharing mode is set to False:
CloudPortal Business Manager entity maps toAccelerite CloudPlatform entity
Channel Domain
Customer account Sub Domain
Users
  • Each user gets his own VLAN network, public IP and Virtual router
  • Normal users can access their VMs only
Account
Master User
  • Manages the customer account
  • Can view VMs of all users in the customer account
  • Can create new users in the customer account
Domain admin account
When Resource Sharing mode is set to false:
  • For each tenant in CPBM, a sub domain is created in CloudPlatform, where master user is the Domain Admin.
  • For each user, a user account is created in the sub domain of CloudPlatform.
  • Entitlements and usages are scoped to user level. Hence, each user gets an invoice for his usage charges.
  • Normal User can view only the VMs launched by him.
  • Unlimited entitlements are always scoped to subscription level.
