Using different Hypervisors

hi,

if I have (just for example) a XenServer and a vSphere host beneath my CloudPlatform installation and ressources on one host getting short, what will happen if I upgrade a VM on that host with additional RAM and CPU? Can that VM then be migrated from one Hypervisor to another or what will happen/can I do?

Using different Hypervisors

You won't be able to migrate a guest instance between different hypervisor types.

A couple of notes on why this is the case.

With Cloud Platform, you can migrate instances between hypervisors in the same cluster, assuming primary storage is shared. Clusters are groups of identical hosts.

The template, used to launched the instance, is a hypervisor specific virtual disk.

You will likely need to add an additional host to the existing cluster for that hypervisor type.

--Mike
