CloudPlatform 3.x
CloudService.exe - What does it do?
I can read the service' description but I was wondering if someone could tell me exactly what that service does? There's no mention of the service in the admin/install guide for CP 3.0.6 however based on my first look it seems like it's a Citrix CP related service. The service was using quite a bit of CPU on a few VMs and I was wondering what functionality would be lost would the service be disabled (or is the service a requirement?)
TIA
Erik

Hi Erik,
Yes the service "Cloud.com Instance Management Service" is related to the password reset feature available in CloudPlatform UI. The service is used to fetch password from the Router VM of the network.
The log (cloud.log) for the service is present in C:\Program Files\Cloud.com, Inc\Cloud.com VM Instance Manager\ directory.
Thanks,
Prashanth
Thank you for your answer however I do have some follow-up questions.
1. When you say "The service is used to fetch password from the Router VM of the network" Could you please provide further details? When I stated I suspected the service was used for password resets, I pictured a service running with administrator privileges that would simply reset the administrator password upon request (i.e.: when we use the "Reset password" tool in CloudPlatform UI). Your explanation leads me to believe it might be a bit more complicated than that and in the spirit of properly supporting the service, I was hoping you could provide more details.
2. Will anyting other than the password reset ability (from CP GUI) suffer if we disable that service permanently?
TIA
I pictured a service running with administrator privileges that would simply reset the administrator password upon request (i.e.: when we use the "Reset password" tool in CloudPlatform UI).
--> When you request for the "Reset Password" ( which can only be done for a stopped VM) CloudPlatform will generate a new password and will save into the Router VM running for the network ( in the file /var/cache/cloud/passwords). SO when the guest VM ( windows in this case) starts the "Cloud.com Instance Management Service" will fetch the password from the Router VM and resets it.
Will anyting other than the password reset ability (from CP GUI) suffer if we disable that service permanently?
--> No, disabling the service has no other impact.
