Add/Remove networks to a VM
You can add, update, or remove a Network Interface Card (NIC) on a VM from Accelerite CloudPlatform 4.1.0 onwards. This feature supports the following:
- Adding a NIC on a VM Instance
- Update the default NIC on a VM Instance
- Remove a NIC from a VM Instance
As a user, you can add or remove networks to a VM that belongs to you. Network must be created to add a NIC to a VM. You cannot perform any actions for current default network of the VM. You have the option to update the default NIC. The default NIC will be labelled as 'Default'. You can remove a NIC added to a VM, if it is not the default.
Note:
Perform the following steps to add and manage a NIC on a VM.- Add, Delete, and Update are not supported for Hyper-V VMs in running state
- When resource shared mode is set to false:
- The networks created by the current user will be listed in the Add Network to VM wizard.
- Root and Master users cannot add or remove NIC to/from any other user's VM.
- Root user can add NIC to the VM launched by the Master user.
To add a NIC on a VM Instance
- Log in to CloudPortal Business Manager as a user.
- Click My Services.
- Either click the cloud service instance tab or click the Manage Resources link of the desired service instance.
- In the Instances tab, specify the VM for which you want to add a network. Alternatively, you can select the required VM from the left pane.
- Place the cursor over the manage icon (that looks like a gear wheel), and click Add Network to VM. In the Add Network to VM wizard that appears:
- Select the required network from the Select Network drop-down list.
Note: Only those networks that are created in the same zone as that of the VM are listed.
- Select the I agree to the Terms and Conditions check box.
- Click OK.
- Select the required network from the Select Network drop-down list.
To update the default NIC on a VM Instance
- Log in to CloudPortal Business Manager as a user.
- Click My Services.
- Either click the cloud service instance tab or click the Manage Resources link of the desired service instance.
- In the Instances tab, select the required VM from the left pane.
- Go to the NICs tab in the details pane.
- Select the desired NIC.
- Click the icon (that appears as a gear wheel).
- Click Set default NIC.
Note: Master user can set a NIC as default for any of his users.
To delete a NIC from a VM Instance
- Log in to CloudPortal Business Manager as a user.
- Click My Services.
- Either click the cloud service instance tab or click the Manage Resources link of the desired service instance.
- In the Instances tab, select the required VM from the left pane.
- Go to the NICs tab in the details pane.
- Select the NIC that you want to delete.
- Click the icon (that appears as a gear wheel).
- Click Remove NIC.
Multiple addresses on a single NIC
You can add multiple IP addresses on a single NIC. This feature is supported from Accelerite CloudPlatform 4.2.x onwards. The current guest VM has a default guest network interface that acquires primary IP address from the server during boot time. If required, you can add additional IP addresses for the guest VM NIC.
To add secondary IPs for a NIC
- Log in to CloudPortal Business Manager as a user.
- Click My Services.
- Either click the cloud service instance tab or click the Manage Resources link of the desired service instance.
- In the Instances tab, select the required VM from the left pane.
- Go to the NICs tab in the details pane.
- Select the desired NIC.
- Click the icon (that appears as a gear wheel).
- Click Acquire New Secondary IP.
- In the "Acquire New Secondary IP" dialog box that appears specify the IP address. This is an optional field.
Note: If you do not specify the IP address, a private IP address will be picked from guest network.
- Click OK.
A comma separated list of secondary IPs will be shown under primary IP.
To release secondary IPs for a NIC
- Log in to CloudPortal Business Manager as a user.
- Click My Services.
- Either click the cloud service instance tab or click the Manage Resources link of the desired service instance.
- In the Instances tab, select the required VM from the left pane.
- Go to the NICs tab in the details pane.
- Select the desired NIC.
- Click the icon (that appears as a gear wheel).
- Click Release Secondary IP.
Note: This option is not available if there are no Secondary IPs.
- In the "Release Secondary IP" dialog box that appears select the IP address that you want to release.
- Click OK.
