Client Agent data to Core

Hi,

In 9.x Core Satellite Architecture - What kind of information would be send from Client Agent to the Core? Like we are not doing any OSM connects so what other information would be send. Can this be tracked ?

Regards,

Vinod

Hi Vinod,

Various data are sent back from Client Agent to the Core (or Satellite). It starts with SMINFO objects which provides info on the device itself, ZRSTATE and ZRSTATES objects which provides connection info, APPEVENT for application reporting and some more objects. In fact, everything which appears within Reporting Server is feed by data sent by Agent to the Core server.

Hi,

What is the use of Clients sending the SMINFO,APPEVENT,ZRSTATE and ZRSTATES object to Core ? It makes sense that RMS sends this information to RDBMS but why to Core ?

Vinod

I wonder if the question here is about the need to route some data to the Messaging Server for posting in the reporting server database (ODBC) versus the need to route some data to the Management Portal on the Core for posting in the HP.ZONE OpenLDAP directory service. Much of the SMINFO data is used to populate the device category groups in the HP.ZONE directory. Some customers find this data extraneous, and if they are not interested in the zone information, have asked how to prevent posting the management portal data to provide some performance benefit overall for the Core Console. For example, enhancements to reduce posting overhead and improve console response time were introduced with the Core 7.80.5 and 7.80.6 patches (KM1055419).

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the comments. My question was more on the reason why Clients have to send data to Core (Open LDAP Directory) ? What benefits does it bring?

From what I understand, the data posted into the HP Zone directory is primarily used for OS provisioning, and to maintain a central repository of information about the HPCA infrastructure servers. There is also the benefit in maintaining a repository of IP address and MAC address information to enable push-style notification of target devices and WOL capability. The ability to push the HPCA agent onto a device is also enabled in this fashion.

Hi Steve,

Thanks. It makes sense now. So in larger enterprises like us we can disable posting the data to Portal (SMINFO objects) if we are not going with OSM.

Now the next question is how feasiable is Portal (Open LDAP) to handle more than 100,000 clients? We really face large number of issues with the portal on every day basis like portal hung, jobs notification issue, etc.

Vinod
