NVMDR Error Logs

Hi,

Under which circumstances the following messages are seen under NVDMR logs?

NVD4012I 31122013 01:49:39   Initializing    --- Logons are disabled -- sending <retry in 999 min> response

Is it during DMA sync process or any other process? I can see the Active tasks is just 12 (TASK Limit is set to 125 in edmprof.dat) so Pushbacks are ruled out.

Any insights ?

Regards,

vinod

Hi Vinod,

NVD messages in the 4000 thru 4099 range are all related to security and are generated by the RCS logging facility.   The general flow of the RCS logging will consists of 5 phases

  • Configuration Server startup
  • HPCA agent connect
  • Object resolution
  • End of HPCA agent connect
  • Configuration Server shutdown

The message you have outlined here is related to first phase of RCS Startup where the parameters in the edmprof.dat file are being processed.

Going forward with this question I would like to open a ticket under your behalf and work this forward via the support ticket.

Please let me know this is agreeable with you and I will be in contact with you regarding.

Hi Billy,

I just want to understand under what circumstance these messages are logged in NVDMR.

Hi Vinod,

My expectation is that logons are only disabled during the commit phase of DCS on the target server. You can also disable logons using the SNMP adapter (to temporaily disable inbound client connections and CSDB Editor logons) but I don't think many customers ever implemented the SNMP adapter. These days if you want to take a server out of service you can do it in COP, so outside of the DCS sync commit phase you probably should not see these messages. At least I can't think of any other scenarios.

Hi Vinod,

I would like to add that if you are seeing these messages in the NVDMR100.log file this would indicate that the the DISA_RETRY is set to 999 in your edmprof.dat file.

This setting would result in a client that is attempting to connect to RCS when logons are halted to wait for X number of minutes before retrying a second connection attempt.

DISA_RETRY = 999 IS equal to 16 hours and 39 minutes which would in affect DISAable this clients retry attempt for the night.

Please see page 84 of the attached "CfgSvr_UG.pdf" for more information.

Thanks Billy
