Cloud Stack - Automated Xenserver 6.5 host deployment.

Hi,

I am relatively new to Cloud stack/Platform so I might be missing something but after searching for a few days I am having difficulty finding an answer to my question:

How are people automating the deployment of the underlying hypervisor (specifically Xenserver6.x), I understand that Cloudstack has some bare metal support baked in (although disabled by default/ not very well documented ?) but I have been unable to find any documentation on rolling out Xenserver through it.

Am I looking in the wrong place or missing something, should I be focusing on an additional product/service for the host deployment maybe something like foreman & puppet?

Any pointers or clues as to the location of decent/Correct documentation on automated host deployment would be great.

Cheers,

James

Hi James

You can automate the xenserver  build by using approach described by Tim Mackey  at http://xenserver.org...r-at-scale.html

We use it internally to build all the servers and apply the upgrades. Once servers are build you still have to join them to the cluster and add to cloud platform. It takes about 30 min for us to build a cluster of 10 servers.

Good luck.

Best regards

Yuri

Thanks for reply & link Yuri,

Believe I have glanced over that blog post before but left it as I âwronglyâ assumed a cloud automation platform to be able to automatically provision its own building blocks ;)

I will have a proper read through the instructions and see what can be done within the run once script, expect to be able to fully customize, build, patch, configure, & check in through the correct application of script.

Just a bit of a shame that what on the face of it looks to be a sensible feature to build into a cloud automation platform, actually requires secondary standalone os delivery solution.

cheers,

James
