Storage Network Setup does MGMT Server have to be able mount this NFS share?

Storage Network Setup does MGMT Server have to be able mount this NFS share?

When setting up a separate storage network in apache cloudstack 4 , does mgmt server has to be able to mount the secondary nfs storage? Another words I can understand template upload from a website, mgmt server makes the request to ssvm and ssvm downloads it directly from a web server locally or on the internet for templates or isos but how is downloading templates to your pc works from mgmt website if we are not mounting nfs on the mgmt server? Unfortunately very few resources available in detail about setting up storage network in Cloudstack 4, ty sam

Hi Sam,

>>When setting up a separate storage network in apache cloudstack 4 , does mgmt server has to be able to mount the secondary nfs storage?

If you are using VMware as your hypervisor then YES you will need to make sure that the management server can access the secondary storage. If not then just make sure the required templates are seeded into the secondary storage.

When you click on the Download template from the UI. A URL is generated for the template download which is served by the SSVM ( not the management server). Note: Secondary storage is always mounted on the SSVM.

Thank you for your answer, one last question is does management network have to be able to ping this optional storage network (for secondary storage, nfs) in case if we setup one? There is some information about ping requirements for both networks and I am asking this because it is related to my original question, some people resolved this problem by creating a static route between management and storage networks and this seems to be the only solution for it to work (thus my first question was asked does it have to be mountable), what is your opinion on this? ( this subject is not documented in the manual) ty sam

I believe this was the requirement in older versions where the SSVM was using management network to access the secondary storage instead of storage network.  AFAIK this is fixed in the recent versions and there is no need to create a static route.

We are using CS 4.3 with xenserver 6.2, ty for your answer, I really appreciate it...so I will bind nfs server to management and storage ip addresses and after initial setup is complete i will remove nfs server bind from the management interface thanks again, sam
